Monetization with AdSense and Other Ad Networks

Once you have a niche website setup, and begin getting some traffic, Google AdSense becomes a very appealing way to start earning some money. This is a common first step for most niche sites, so it’s worth a deeper exploration. Let’s take a look at what is required to earn $100 per day using AdSense and other similar ad networks. After that, we’ll delve into the typical income generated by niche sites just getting started with monetization through ads.
A couple of sites have created great articles outlining the amount of work that goes into generating $100 per day from a monetization strategy using ads. RankXL and Grow Traffic are the two sites we will discuss here.

150,000 Visitors Every Month

Chris, who writes a blog called RankXL, has broken down the math. His article shows that 150,000 visitors per month can generate the $100 per day goal. However, Chris is quick to point out that this is very dependent on the niche being targeted. Some niches simply have ads that generate more revenue than others. Additionally, Chris has chosen not to attempt to build one site that brings in the 150,000 visitors per months. Instead, he runs a network of 20 sites which combine to give him the traffic required to earn $100 per day from ad revenue.

40,000 Page Views Every Day

James Parsons, over at Grow Traffic, offers another great article that explains what it takes to earn $100 per month. If you can get $0.25 per click and a click-through-ratio of 1%, that means you only need 40,000 page views per day to earn $100. With 30 days in the month, James has tallied a requirement for 1,200,000 page views per month. This is a much more monumental task than Chris suggested, but his niche may be more profitable.

Monetization With Ads Is Tough

If your plan is to build a network of 20 or more sites in a high-value niche, then monetization through ads may be a good options for you. However, most people generate a much smaller income from the ads they’re displaying each month. A more reasonable figure that I’ve heard from most clients is somewhere between $100 - $1,000 per month in ad revenue. These results are generated with a single site bringing in from 4,000 up to 40,000 page views per month.

Value Your Visitors

There are many ways to monetize your website, and ad networks offer the lowest return on your investment. The time and effort you put into building your site and creating valuable content for your audience are not reflected in the few pennies you receive for each ad displayed on your site. Furthermore, these ads undervalue the relationship you’re building with the visitors to your site. Rather than just showing them ads for products and services developed by other businesses, you could create your own offers and serve your audience further. Another option is to connect your visitors with the specific products and services you know will give them value. This can be done with affiliate offers and lead generation.
